Biography
One of the more intriguing jazz orchestras from the Soviet Union in the mid-1980s, Allegro made an impression appearing in Bombay, India in 1984 and at European jazz festivals in the mid-1980s. None of its individual members became household names (the best-known was tenor saxophonist Igor Butman), but their Mobile Fidelity release, which is drawn from a few records released by the Russian Melodiya label, gives one a good idea of the group's creativity and potential. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
