Florian Kupfer
from Wiesbaden, Germany
Biography
German DJ and producer Florian Kupfer writes raw, emotive house and techno tracks that often contain booming kick drums, thick tape hiss, and sparse yet poignant melodies and atmospheres. The Wiesbaden-born artist grew up a choirboy before getting into techno, hip-hop, and industrial music. He caught a DJ set by outsider house figurehead Ron Morelli that completely changed his perceptions about music. In 2013, Kupfer began releasing material on Morelli's trendsetting L.I.E.S. (Long Island Electrical Systems) label as well as its Russian Torrent Versions imprint. Debut EP Lifetrax became an immediate underground smash, particularly due to its track "Feelin." Several other singles and EPs followed, including one-off collaborations with Shadowlust's Lili Schulder (as UE LI) and NGLY (as Swere). In late 2014, Kupfer collaborated with Willie Burns for an untitled EP on Rush Hour's No 'Label' imprint. Kupfer's I Feel You EP was released by Burns' W.T. Records the following year. Also in 2015, Kupfer made his debut on Ninja Tune's Technicolour sublabel with the Explora EP. Unfinished, his second release for the imprint, followed a year later. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
