The daughter of musicians Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris (the two co-wrote Farris' 1995 Top Ten pop hit "I Know"), Tate Farris was born and raised outside Atlanta in nearby Decatur. Deeply involved with music as a youngster, she had sung in choirs, learned piano, and started making beats by age 13. She wasn't quite out of her teens in 2015, when she self-issued ROYGBIV, an EP of lean and understated R&B. Following the Xmas EP in 2016, her next project arrived in 2018 in the form of Boys, a brash EP that showcased her budding rap skills. Tate experienced something of a breakthrough in 2019. She released Girls, her first album, with BbyMutha, Baby Rose, and Kari Faux among the featured guests. Additionally, she appeared on Revenge of the Dreamers III, which went on to become platinum certified and nominated for that year's Grammy for Best Rap Album, and scored multiple placements on the soundtrack for the fourth season of Insecure. Signed to Insecure creator and star Issa Rae's Raedio label, Tate continued in 2020 with a handful of singles and the After the Rain EP. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
