Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Gilinsky began uploading comedy videos in 2007 with longtime friend Jack Johnson. By 2013 the pair had rebranded themselves Jack and Jack and began racking up followers. A year later they had amassed five million fans and were beginning to shift from satire and comedy shorts into music, beginning with their first original single, "Distance." Collaborations with a host of producers and songwriters (Shawn Mendes, Steve Aoki, Max Martin, and Savan Kotecha) followed, and by 2015 Jack and Jack had sold over a million digital singles, which included the hits "Wild Life," "Doing It Right," and "Like That (feat. Skate)." The duo's debut EP, Calibraska, was released independently later that year, and in 2017 the pair inked a deal with Island Records and issued a second EP, Gone, with the full-length A Good Friend Is Nice arriving in 2019.
In 2020, having finished touring in support of the album, Gilinsky released his debut solo single, "My Love," with plans to issue a full-length debut later that year. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
