January 1, 1904 - September 29, 1998 (age 94)
Biography
When Eric Gallo died in 1998, at the age of ninety-four, he had spent six decades as the dean of South Africa's recording industry. A lover of music, Gallo was responsible for South Africa's top record labels, including GRC, RPM, Trek, Unika, Meteor, Trutone and Teal. Gallo, who built the first recording studio in South Africa in 1934, was named "honorary life president" of the Gallo Africa Music Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Millenium Entertainment Group Africa, formerly known as the CNA Gallo Group. Gallo's involvement with music was balanced by his lifelong association with horse racing. In addition to owning several horses, including Elevation, he was an honorary life president of the Turffontein Racing Club. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
