Biography
Dum Dum Boys are a rock & roll band who formed in the city of Nice on the French Riviera in the mid-'80s. Inspired by the raw sounds of bands like the Suicide, the Velvet Underground, and the Stooges, their name comes from the title of an Iggy Pop song. After debuting in 1987 with the "Real Cool Trash/Point of No Return" single, they released their first full-length, Nothing Means Nothing, a year later on Closer Records. Over the next decade they would release four more LPs that would explore a variety of fuzz-toned, punk, and rock styles from the '60s garage of 1994's Hypnovista to 1998's analog synth-heavy Electronic Pop Music. Dum Dum Boys remained active in the early 2000s, continuing their explorations with albums like 2001's Soul Bondage Deluxe and 2003's Kiss Me Deadly, though nearly a decade would pass before their next studio effort. 2011's Flesh! Trash! Heat! marked a grand return with its mix of garage bangers and trippy, lo-fi electro-rock. After signing with Nice-based indie Mono-Tone Records, they recorded Alive in the Echo Chamber in 2013, again displaying their range in a variety of noisy styles. Electrified!, the band's tenth studio album, arrived in 2016, again via the Mono-Tone label. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
