Biography
Pamela Taylor and Audra Dodi Alexander comprise Pam Dodi, a Detroit-based female vocal duo that brings a healthy appreciation of gospel and classic soul to their urban contemporary output. The big-voiced singers, both of whom have impressive ranges, first met in the Motor City in 1996. Taylor and Alexander quickly became close friends and learned that they had a mutual appreciation of gospel and secular RB; both of them had sung in church extensively. While their self-titled debut album of 2002 isn't a gospel release, per se, some of Pam Dodi's songs have a spiritual outlook, and the duo has toured with the Clark Sisters (a major gospel/Christian RB group) as background vocalists. Taylor and Alexander had been performing together as a duo for a few years when, in 1999, an appearance at a talent showcase led to a deal with Diversified Entertainment Group (a management/production company that has also represented former Brownstone singer turned solo artist Nicci Gilbert). Armed with a demo, Diversified went about trying to get a record deal for Pam Dodi, and in 2001, the Midwestern duo signed with MCA. That year, Pam Dodi started recording their self-titled debut album, whose producers range from Randy Jackson (of Jackson 5 fame) to Troy Oliver to Steve Stone Huff (known for his work with Avant and KeKe Wyatt). MCA released the album in January 2002. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi
