Edgar Ferreira
Biography
Edgar Ferreira had his compositions (mainly in the rojão genre) recorded by important interpreters since the '50s (Carlos Galhardo, Joel de Almeida, Luiz Wanderley, Jackson do Pandeiro) and into the 2000s (Cascabulho, Zé Ramalho, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Beth Carvalho, Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Martinho da Vila, and Genival Lacerda). He moved to Rio in 1942 and, after the '50s, had several of his compositions recorded by Jackson do Pandeiro -- like Um a Um, 17 na Corrente, and Forró em Limoeiro -- with popular success. Also a composer of soundtracks for cinema, Ferreira was awarded for the music written for the play +O Rei da Vela (Oswald de Andrade) and for the homonymous film (directed by José Celso Martinez Corrêa). ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
