The Uppsala-born, Los Angeles-based Aalegra received early support from producer No I.D., who added her to the ARTium Recordings family. Aalegra appeared in 2014 on Common's ARTium/Def Jam album Nobody's Smiling, then released her debut, the There Will Be Sunshine EP, through major-label Epic. On the highlight "Bad Things," Common returned Aalegra's earlier favor with a guest verse. During the first half of the following year, Aalegra released the RZA-produced "Emotional" and appeared on Vince Staples' "Jump Off the Roof." The mini-album Don't Explain followed in 2016 and built anticipation for the October 2017 arrival of Feels, which contained contributions from Staples, Vic Mensa, and Logic.
A handful of additional singles, including the Adult R&B Songs-topping ballad "I Want You Around," led to the 2019 LP Ugh, Those Feels Again. The album, issued that August with support from Kobalt's AWAL division, entered the Billboard 200 at number 73 and reached number 39 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Aalegra was subsequently nominated for two of Sweden's Grammis awards: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Productive throughout 2020, Aalegra was featured on tracks by dvsn, Alicia Keys, and Giveon. Still with ARTium, she also entered a joint deal with Roc Nation and resumed solo activity with the 2021 single "Dying 4 Your Love." That July, Aalegra released TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, a full-length boasting multiple appearances from Tyler, The Creator and one from James Fauntleroy. The album entered the Swedish national chart at number 45, and in the U.S. reached number 24 on the Billboard 200 (number 16 R&B/hip-hop). ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
