Louis Applebaum

Biography
Educated at the University of Toronto, Applebaum served as staff composer and director of the National Film Board of Canada. He wrote the film score for The Story of GI Joe and was nominated for an Academy Award for that score in 1947. He became the musical director of the Shakespearean Festival at Stratford, Ontario in 1960. Applebaum continued to compose for film, radio, stage, and film and has prepared some of his work for concert performance, the best known of which is Barbara Allen, a piece composed for the National Ballet of Canada. As an administrator, he served on the Canada Council, the National Arts Centre, and the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada. ~ Lynn Vought, Rovi
