Biography
Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Kay Hanley would gain initial pop fame as the lead singer for Letters To Cleo. In 1993, the group released Aurora Glory Alice, an album that generated a lot of praise from fans and critics alike. In 1995, Letters To Cleo released Wholesale Meats And Fish but the album appeared for only one week on the Billboard charts. By 1997, the group was on its proverbial last legs and released Go!. That same year, Hanley opted to pursue different musical projects, taking the role of Mary Magdalene in the Boston Rock Opera's production of Jesus Christ Superstar opposite Gary Cherone. She also began performing acoustically with her husband Michael Eisenstein in the Northeast and also on the West Coast. She also gave birth during this time to her daughter, Zoe. Prior to start providing music to a children's cartoon show, Generation O, Hanley was asked to provide singing vocals for Josie The Pussycats. In 2001, Hanley returned to the studio to record her debut album. In 2002, she released her debut record, Cherry Marmalade on Rounder Records. ~ Jason MacNeil, Rovi
