Biography
The drummer who propelled Motörhead's groundbreaking thrash metal attack, Phil Philthy Animal Taylor was born September 21, 1954, in Chesterfield, England. He replaced original Motörhead drummer Lucas Fox midway through recording the band's self-titled 1977 debut album; following completion of the 1980 classic Ace of Spades, Taylor broke his neck during a melee with a fan, sidelining him for the better part of a year. He left the group in 1984 and was replaced by Saxon drummer Pete Gill; in 1987, Taylor returned to the Motörhead lineup, only to again exit four years later in the wake of the 1916 album. He died in November 2015 at the age of 61. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
