Biography
Composer César Costa Filho had success with Dose pra Leão, Tesoura Cega, Massa Falida, and Consumatum Est. His songs were recorded by Maysa, Elis Regina, Claudette Soares, Eliana Pittman, Dóris Monteiro, and Elizeth Cardoso, among others. Costa Filho started to write songs in 1966, having as collaborator Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza. The duo's earliest songs had TV airings on the #A Grande Chance show (TV Tupi, Rio de Janeiro). Together with Aldir Blanc, Ivan Lins, and Gonzaguinha, Costa Filho was one of the founders of the Movimento Artístico Universitário (MAU, or Artistic University Movement). In 1968, he had his song Meu Tamborim (with Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza) interpreted by Beth Carvalho, achieving third place at the I Festival Universitário (University Festival). In 1969, he earned third place at the same festival with Mirante, interpreted by Maria Creuza, and fifth place with De Esquina em Esquina, in Clara Nunes' rendition, both written with Aldir Blanc. Still in 1969, Costa Filho's Visão Geral (with Ruy Maurity and Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza) won third place at the IV Festival Internacional da Canção (FIC, or International Song Festival). In that period, he and his colleagues at MAU were invited to present the TV Globo show #Som Livre Exportação. Costa Filho had his first LP released in 1973, E Os Sambas Viverão, highlighting Anastácio: Samba-Enredo Para um Sambista Morto (with Walter Queirós). He also wrote the soundtracks of many major soap operas like #O Cafona, #Locomotivas, and #Sonho Meu.
