Biography
In 1923, Pixinguinha and his brother China wrote the choro "Já Te Digo" for the carnival of 1926. Pixinguinha, alone, wrote the samba "Viva a Reação." He played the violão (acoustic guitar) and the piano and recorded several records as a singer for Phoenix, including his modinhas "Amei-te Tanto" and "A Lua Nova" (around the year 1917). Making fun of his big feet, Sinhô wrote the march "Pé De Anjo" (1919). It was a reply for China's lyrics for "Já Te Digo" (music by Pixinguinha). China was also a member of the Oito Batutas, a seminal group led by Pixinguinha. With the Batutas, China performed in Paris, France, in 1922 and toured Argentina in 1923. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
