Raised in Melbourne, daine grew up listening to 5 Seconds of Summer and the 1975 before she started going to punk and emo shows. She found camaraderie through her city's hardcore scene, which inspired her to go vegan at the age of 13. Influenced by artists such as Tigers Jaw, Joyce Manor, and Code Orange, she started making songs which blended atmospheric guitars, wistful vocals, and trap beats. After releasing a few early demos online, she issued several singles in 2020, including "Picking Flowers" and "Ascension" (a remake of the first song she ever wrote). Her profile got a boost when Charli XCX shared a nightcore version of her song "Bloody Knees," and the left-field pop star made a guest appearance on daine's Halloween online performance. She signed to Warner Music Australia, and in April of 2021, she released "boys wanna txt," a single produced by 100 gecs' Dylan Brady and Sydney-based Ryan Jacob, featuring a guest verse by emo rapper ericdoa. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
