Biography
Under the name Blair, guitarist Barney Perry (full name: Barney Blair Perry) released a 1978 album entitled Night Life. The album's title track broke out as a dance floor favorite and did rather well considering it was released on Perry's dinky Solar Sound label. Born in Buffalo, NY, Perry's path led to Washington, D.C.'s Howard University, where he studied music composition under the guidance of Donald Byrd. He joined Byrd's Blackbyrds, a successful jazz-funk/R&B group that released several albums throughout the latter half of the ‘70s. He has racked up performance and recording credits with George Benson, Lonnie Liston Smith, Irene Reid, Bobbi Humphrey, and Marlena Shaw. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
