Biography
Todd Smith (born James Todd Smith) is a singer and songwriter best known as a founding member of the CCM band Selah.

Born in Michigan, Smith spent his early childhood in Detroit. His parents moved the family to Central Africa for missionary work when he was five years old, not returning to the States until he was in his teens. After attending Belmont University in Nashville, Smith formed the Dove Award-winning Selah in 1997 with his sister Nicol Smith (later Nicol Sponberg) and friend Allan Hall. The band's first album, Be Still My Soul, appeared in 1999. Their updates of traditional hymns and popular religious songs sometimes revealed African choral influences. The trio released three more albums before Nicol left in 2004 to give more attention to her solo career. The same year, Todd released his solo debut, a Christian rock album titled Alive, on Curb Records.

Amy Perry eventually took over as a long-term third member of Selah. In addition to regular appearances on the Christian charts, the band hit the Top 50 of the Billboard 200 with 2006's Bless the Broken Road: The Duets Album. It was followed by three more studio albums over the next decade, each hitting the Top Five of the Christian albums chart.

Smith's second solo LP wouldn't appear until 2016. Led by the anthemic single "Calling All Fathers," There's a Light was delivered by Curb that August. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
