Biography
Daniel Wilson is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose output ranges from adventurous pop to revamped electro-R&B. Each one of the Ypsilanti, Michigan native's songs is deeply emotive, a trait that can be traced back to the many years he spent developing his talent in gospel choirs. Although Wilson came up in the church and was nicknamed "Little Luther" for a vocal likeness to Luther Vandross, his musical interests ventured far beyond gospel and soul. After teaching himself to use music production software, he made his first recordings and gained online attention through SoundCloud uploads. The digital EPs Young Rubbish and Boy Who Cried Thunder, as well as a 7" single featuring the lead tracks of both releases, were issued during 2014. A third EP, Sinner of the Week, followed in 2016, the same year Wilson's name appeared beside those of Kendrick Lamar, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Doc McKinney, and Abel Tesfaye as a co-writer of the Weeknd's Top 40 U.S. and U.K. pop hit "Sidewalks." The following year, Wilson co-wrote and was featured on "Home," a single by Hot Chip's Joe Goddard. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
