Biography
Dominique Toney is a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and pianist whose style of contemporary R&B is refined and introspective. The daughter of Grammy-nominated musician Kevin Toney (the Blackbyrds) and high-profile costume designer Phyllis Toney, she was raised in Southern California and at a young age was deeply involved in dance, music, and theater. At New York University, she studied musical theater and took classes in songwriting. In 2014, she released A Love Like Ours on her father's K-Tone label. The elder Toney appeared on the album, as did a few other major veterans of R&B and jazz, including guitarists Ray Parker, Jr., Craig T. Cooper, and bassist Freddie Washington. Also an actor, Dominique Toney has performed with the sketch comedy group Political Subversities and has appeared in the series Project Reality and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
