Megan Peters
Biography
A singer/songwriter based in Austin, TX, Megan Peters is an alt-folkie in the tradition of Sonya Hunter or a less-aggressive Ani DiFranco, matching smart, introspective lyrics to low-key, solo acoustic guitar tunes. Born in 1961, Peters was raised in Salt Lake City where her folk-pop tunes made her a fixture on the local music scene. In 1993, Peters performed at South by Southwest in Austin, TX, and was so taken with the city that she moved there the following year. After a disastrous experience with manager/producer George Tobin (whose previous career as mall pop star Tiffany's Svengali really should have been a warning flag for the singer/songwriter), Peters extricated herself from that contract and self-released her debut album, About Time, in 1997. A follow-up, The Queen's Bed, appeared in 1999. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
