Biography
The Brooklyn-based duo Parlor James pitted the crystalline tenor of Ryan Hedgecock (the founder of roots rockers Lone Justice) against the rootsy twang of Amy Allison (daughter of jazz great Mose Allison) to create a gothic sound steeped in the traditions of country vocal harmony. The pair first teamed in 1994, after Hedgecock returned from a long self-imposed exile from the music industry following the dissolution of Lone Justice. He met Allison, the onetime frontwoman for the country-rock band the Maudlins, at a New York songwriters' showcase, and soon they were writing and performing as a duo. In 1996, Parlor James issued their debut EP, the six-song collection Dreadful Sorry. Old Dreams followed in 1998. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
