Shara Nelson
from London, England
January 1, 1965 (age 59)
Biography
Shara Nelson achieved a measure of success, but little name recognition, as a charter member of British dance collective and trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack. Nelson contributed lead vocals to the group's biggest U.K. hit, Unfinished Sympathy, and also co-wrote several other songs on their groundbreaking debut, Blue Lines. However, Nelson's limited role in the group proved unsatisfying, and she left for a solo career. She wrote a large quantity of songs diverging from the direction taken by her former band, using more pop song construction, and got a solo deal. She released her debut album, What Silence Knows, in 1994, and had a U.K. hit with Burt Bacharach and Hal David's The Look of Love. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
