Singer, songwriter, and worship leader Derek Johnson is a passionate artist with a bent toward faith-based pop music. An Indiana native, Johnson grew up listening to his parents' '60s and '70s music collection. Initially, he started out playing drums, but by age 11 had switched to guitar as his primary instrument. In 2007, Johnson began attending ministry school at Bethel Church in Redding, California. While there, he became involved with the worship team and began leading student worship sessions. Eventually, he also began working with the Jesus Culture youth outreach ministry, which is based out of Bethel Church. In 2012, he appeared on Jesus Culture's album Emerging Voices, along with other up-and-coming worship artists Mary Kat Ehrenzeller, Nate Ward, and Justin Jarvis.
