An actress and singer with a bright vocal tone that glides between strong and vulnerable, Dove Cameron joined the Disney Channel stable as a teen. She became best known in the acting realm for her Daytime Emmy-winning turn as identical twins Liv and Maddie (2013-2017) and as Mal, daughter of Kristin Chenoweth's Maleficent, in the Descendants franchise. A central figure in the exuberant Top Ten soundtracks of the latter, Cameron emerged with a more reflective, atmospheric pop on her two-track solo debut, "Bloodshot/Waste," in 2019. Her single "Boyfriend" hit the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 in 2022.

Born in Seattle in 1996, Cameron grew up on nearby Bainbridge Island, where she first began acting in community theater at Bainbridge Performing Arts. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, where she attended Burbank High School. During this period, she sang in the choir and began pursuing an acting career.

In 2012, with a handful of television credits under her belt, Cameron won the lead in the Disney Channel production Bits and Pieces as the character Alanna. However, by 2013, the show had been reworked into the sitcom Liv and Maddie, with Cameron playing the titular sisters Liv and Maddie Rooney. She sang on the show, and several of the tracks -- including a cover of Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World" and the series' theme, "Better in Stereo" -- were released digitally, with the latter eventually hitting the number one spot on Billboard's Kid Digital Songs chart. In 2015, Cameron's vocals were fully showcased with the release of the show's soundtrack compilation Liv and Maddie: Music from the TV Series. Also in 2015, she starred in the hit Disney Channel film Descendants, appearing on the film's Billboard 200-topping soundtrack.

Cameron teamed up with fellow Liv and Maddie cast member Ryan McCartan to form a pop group called the Girl and the Dreamcatcher. They released their debut single, "Written in the Stars," in 2015, with an EP, Negatives, arriving in July 2016. That December, Cameron appeared as Amber Von Tussle in the NBC television presentation Hairspray Live!, a TV adaptation of the award-winning musical based on John Waters' cult-favorite movie. She sang three songs in the production, which were featured on the Hairspray Live! cast album released several days after the initial broadcast.

Descendants 2 premiered in 2017, and the soundtrack album reached number six on the Billboard 200. August 2019's Descendants 3 became the franchise's third straight album to reach the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. Meanwhile, the song "Night Falls," which featured Cameron along with other cast members, hit the Hot 100, and she voiced a character in the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie. In September 2019, Cameron's first solo EP, "Bloodshot/Waste," arrived on Sony/Disruptor.
