Mythical Beast
from Kansas City, MO
Biography
Kansas City stoner rock trio Mythical Beast fit into the Black Mountain and Wooden Shjips psychedelic revival scene, with their thunderous rumblings and moody doomscapes fronted by Corinne, a wild-eyed blonde with Nico looks and witch-like vocals. In spring of 2007, after the band played the first Diamond Days Fest in New York, Greg Weeks, who caught the show, invited the group to join his label Language of Stone, an imprint of Drag City. Their debut was created that May, in only ten days at Weeks' Hexham Head studio in Philadelphia. Perfectly replicating the '70s sound, the album was recorded using only analog gear -- specifically, an MCI 2" tape machine and a DDA mixing console. Sabbath vibe intact, Scales was released on October 21, 2008, on the same day Language of Stone's similar-minded act Heavy Hands released their debut. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi
