Biography
Drummer Jaime Salazar is mostly known for his work with the Swedish progressive rock group the Flower Kings. His powerful-yet-subtle style brought the bands lush arrangements a remarkable energy. Born October 18, 1965 in Chile, Salazar first touched the drums at age 14. Self-taught (except for a brief studying session in Los Angeles in 1993), he learned by listening to Stewart Copeland, Mitch Mitchell, and Ian Paice. His first important engagement was with ex-Mahavishnu Orchestra Jonas Hellborg, with whom he recorded and toured in the 1980s. He also toured with the Swedish AOR outfit Bad Habit, the Swedish rock singer Zia, and new country artist Aaron Springfield. In 1994, he was recruited by progressive rock guitarist Roine Stolt to work on his album The Flower King. The warm reception the album received motivated the creation of the Flower Kings as a full-time band and Salazar has been the driving rhythmic force of the band ever since. He also played on Stolt's 1998 solo album Hydrophonia. ~ François Couture, Rovi
