The Nudge
Biography
The IDM meets post-rock collective Nudge feature multi-instrumentalists Brian Foote and Paul Dickow and vocalist Honey Owens as their creative core, and feature members of likeminded bands such as Fontanelle, Jessamine, Sunn, Emergency, and Nice Nice as collaborators. The group formed in the late '90s and embarked on extensive jam sessions that were later cut and pasted into a glitchy fusion of live and programmed performances. This modus operandi was evident on Nudge's first album, 2002's Trick Doubt, which was released by Foote's label, Outward Music Company. The following year saw the release of Elaborate Devices for Filtering Crisis, a more intricate affair that was issued by Tigerbeat6. In 2005 they made the jump to Kranky for their next album, Cached. The band went on hiatus as its members pursued other music: Dickow worked on his post-rock meets ambient dub outfit Strategy, while Owens developed the softly surreal project Valet and Foote worked as a producer on many Kranky releases. They reunited in fall 2008 for the Audraglint EP Infinity Padlock, and issued their fourth album, As Good as Gone, in early fall 2009. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
