Fernest "Man" Abshire
Biography
Fernest Man Abshire showed an interest in music from the time he was 12 years old. Four years later in 1950, a teenaged Abshire hooked up with Lawrence Walker and devoted two years to singing and drumming for him. During this period, Roger's band made weekly appearances on Lafayette, LA, television station KLFY. Abshire remained with the outfit until 1964. His other musical associations include a stint with Belton Richard. Abshire contracted leukemia and passed away in 1964 and the Cajun Music Hall of Fame inducted him posthumously in 1997.
