Fernest Man Abshire showed an interest in music from the time he was 12 years old. Four years later in 1950, a teenaged Abshire hooked up with Lawrence Walker and devoted two years to singing and drumming for him. By 1953, Abshire had left his job with Walker and joined the Lafayette Playboys, under the leadership of Aldus Roger. During this period, Roger's band made weekly appearances on Lafayette, LA, television station KLFY. Abshire remained with the outfit until 1964. His other musical associations include a stint with Belton Richard. Abshire contracted leukemia and passed away in 1964 and the Cajun Music Hall of Fame inducted him posthumously in 1997. The list of songs he either penned or recorded includes Lafayette Two-Step, One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer, La Valse a Nonc Alcee, Family Waltz, You Want Me Back Waltz, I Passed in Front of Your Door, Tout les Deux Pour la Meme, Chere Tout Tout, La Valse de Parasol, and Flames of Hell. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi
