Biography
A talented altoist whose sound sometimes comes quite close to that of Cannonball Adderley, Jeff Clayton has played in a wide variety of settings, mostly in the Los Angeles area (although in the late '90s he relocated to the East Coast). He teamed up with his brother, bassist John Clayton, as the Clayton Brothers (off and on since 1977) and as co-leaders (along with drummer Jeff Hamilton) of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. Clayton also played for a short period with the Count Basie Orchestra when it was led by Thad Jones. Jeff Clayton is talented on tenor, flute, and various woodwinds, but his main voice is on alto. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
