David Running
Biography
As a Quebec native singer/songwriter with a penchant for melancholy poetry set to acoustic guitar and unconventionally abrasive vocals, David Running often evokes comparisons to Leonard Cohen. Based in Montreal, Running has quietly developed a following north of the border since he released his first album, Living Underneath, in 1992. That album earned the favor of several Canadian college radio stations and helped Running land several high-profile concert appearances over the course of the following decade including opening gigs for Lucinda Williams, Bill Morrissey, and Matapat. His follow up release, Quell, Quench, appeared in 1997. Both records have received critical acclaim for their experimental approach to folk music and unconventional use of brass and string instrumentation. Running has toured as a solo act, as an acoustic guitar duo with John Klepko, and with a full band consisting of Klepko, guitarist and bass player Pierre-Emmanuel Lyonnaz, and drummer Gilbert Francis. ~ Evan Cater, Rovi
