Biography
Before forming ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons was the lead guitarist of this Houston, TX, group, which released one album and a few singles in the late '60s. Their single 99th Floor became one of the most famous vintage garage 45s after its inclusion on Pebbles, Vol. 2, but the Sidewalks actually leaned much more heavily toward psychedelic and blues-rock. In fact, the group supported Jimi Hendrix at one of his early U.S. gigs and Gibbons became one of Hendrix's first boosters on U.S. shores; strange as it may seem, Hendrix was quite impressed with Gibbons himself, even at this early juncture. The Moving Sidewalks never developed into anything more than a regional act, and are known primarily as a starting point for Gibbons. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
