Biography
The Bloos Magoos were actually identical to the Blues Magoos, who had a big hit with (We Ain't Got Nothin') Yet in early 1967, and were a reasonably popular psychedelic garage pop band in the late '60s. However, prior to their first recordings with the Blues Magoos spelling for Mercury in 1966, they had recorded under the identically pronounced, differently spelled moniker the Bloos Magoos for Verve Folkways. A petty distinction, perhaps, but in case you come across the sole rare Bloos Magoos Verve Folkways 45, it's useful to know that it is indeed the same band.

The Bloos Magoos had formed as the Trenchcoats in the Bronx in 1964. Their name changed around the time they recorded for Verve Folkways in late 1965. The Verve Folkways 45, The People Had No Faces/So I'm Wrong and You Are Right, is a decent (if no more than decent) raw, sullen folk-rock single. Both songs were produced by Rick Shorter, who wrote the A-side and co-wrote the flip; Shorter was a folk-rock singer/songwriter himself, and one of the few African-American performers to record in the style at the height of the folk-rock craze. So I'm Wrong and You Are Right appears on the CD reissue Kaleidoscope Compendium: The Best of the Blues Magoos, yet the superior A-side does not, and remains a rare find to Blues Magoos and folk-rock fans. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
