Vocalist/guitarist Austin Julian founded the Sediment Club in 2008, when he was a volunteer at Jersey City-based freeform radio station WFMU. Coming from an art-punk background, with parents who had previously played in the Bush Tetras and the Voidoids, he had an extensive musical knowledge, and began making music which reflected his myriad influences. Keyboardist Amina Oliveros and bassist Lazar Bozic were part of the group's initial formation, and drummer Jackie McDermott joined in 2009. This lineup released a self-titled EP on Soft Spot Records in 2010. The group parted ways with Oliveros in 2011, and continued as a three-piece. Debut album Time Decay Now was released in 2012, followed by 2013's Kicked Back Into the Crypt, a split LP with Guerilla Toss. Vermont's NNA Tapes released the Sediment Club's EP 30 Seconds Too Late at the end of 2014. Cassette EP B Bakery preceded 2015 full-length Psychosymplastic, the group's first release for Brooklyn's Wharf Cat Records. The group continued touring sporadically, as their members were spread out between different states, but they celebrated their ten-year anniversary with Stucco Thieves, a concise 20-minute full-length which saw release in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
