Biography
Joel Selvin has been a music critic for the -San Francisco Chronicle since 1970. Many locals feel that his work in the daily papers has been out of touch with the pulse of contemporary music for quite some time, so it may be appropriate that his books focus on rock history, largely that which took place before the mid '70s. Indeed, Selvin has written a number of books about San Francisco rock, the most notable being -Summer of Love, which covers the city's acid rock scene from the mid '60s to the early '70s. He's also written the combination music/travel guide, -San Francisco: The Musical History Tour, a photo-oriented book on the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, and an oral history of Sly the Family Stone. Outside of the San Francisco rock realm, he did a biography of Ricky Nelson. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
