Biography
Known as a songwriter's songwriter, folk-based singer and guitarist Kate Wallace perfected her craft in Nashville, where she was a staff writer at Polygram Records. Her songs were cut by countless artists, and Wallace learned from Nashville's best writers and musicians, developing a roots-based sound of her own, spotlighted by her powerful voice and richly detailed and literate songs. After a decade in Nashville, Wallace moved to Los Angeles, again immersing herself in the songwriting and folk scene in California, eventually ending up in Santa Barbara. A main-stage regular at the Kerrville Folk Festival beginning in 1993, she toured and played the A-level folk festival and club circuit, and released a debut album, Kate Wallace, in 1995. Founding her own label imprint, New Pair o' Dimes Records, she released Two Lane America (with Michael Camp) in 2004, along with Too Long from the Sea, which appeared that same year. The ambitious Politics Religion arrived in 2007, followed by Ruby Slippers in 2010. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
