Los Jilgueros del Arroyo
Biography
Los Jilgueros del Arroyo are a charting, award-winning norteño grupo specializing in traditional romanticos, rancheras, cumbias, and corridos. Founded in 1975 by Raul, Jesús, Israel, Alberto, and Polo Urias, they steeped themselves in historic legacy from the outset. Over 40 years later, they've recorded prolifically and, despite personnel changes (Polo left to join Los Rieleros del Norte and later founded La Máquina Norteña), the rest of the band's membership has remained nearly constant, though some sons and cousins have filled in during various periods. Israel Urias is the longstanding bandleader.
The group has released over 50 albums for a variety of labels since its inception, including Chihuahua y Sus Cantares in 2008, which landed at 18 at Mexican Regional Albums and 33 at Hot Latin Albums charts, and 2016's 20 Exitos Mix, which placed at 22 at Hot Latin Albums and nine on the Regional Mexican albums charts. Their many recordings have placed on streaming and download charts as well. They have won numerous regional awards and toured Mexico, the United States, and South America. Mejor Tercia Norteña, a split album with Los Relampagos del Norte was issued by International Musical Treasures in the fall of 2017. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
