Born Zachary William Dess in 1993, Dess grew up in Manhattan, where he first became fascinated with music during an elementary school trip to The Nutcracker. As a middle schooler, he began composing his own chamber works for his school's orchestra, and eventually turned his attention to an eclectic mix of sounds from Chicago blues to hip-hop and trap music. He enrolled at the Berklee School of Music in Boston but dropped out early to focus on making music. Following an intense period of recording at his apartment, Dess emerged with the single "Go Fuck Yourself." He uploaded the track online as Two Feet, and it quickly went viral, racking up over eight million streams and debuting at number 48 on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart.
Not long afterwards, Two Feet signed with Republic Records and released his debut EP, First Steps. A second EP, Momentum, followed in 2017, as did an extensive tour. He then issued his third EP, 2018's A 20 Something Fuck, which included the singles "Hurt People" (featuring Madison Love) and "I Feel Like I'm Drowning," the latter of which hit number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart. The following year, he joined Panic! At the Disco on tour as the opening act.
Two Feet's full-length debut, Pink, arrived in 2020 and included the track "Maria." Taking on the alter ego of Max Marco, he returned in 2021 with Max Marco Is Dead Right? In 2022, he delivered his fourth album, Shape Form, which found him further expanding his electro-soul style with forays into shoegaze, house music, and experimental soundscapes. Included on the album was the single "Tell Me the Truth." ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
