The Diamond Boys
Biography
The Diamond Boys were a quintet formed on the island of Gibraltar by Albert Hammond (guitar, vocals), Richard Cartwright (guitar, vocals), Leslie Hammond (sax), Luis Balloqui (bass), and Luis Vinet (drums). Their sound was heavily influenced by such American acts as the Everly Brothers and Dion the Belmonts, and British performers such as Johnny Kidd the Pirates and Cliff Richard the Shadows. They recorded for British Parlophone and Spanish RCA. Their Parlophone single New Orleans b/w Fool in Love was comprised of two early original songs by Albert Hammond. They broke up at the start of the 1960s. Both sides of that single later surfaced on the music publisher's sampler The Many Sounds of Albert Hammond. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
