Current was formed in 1992 by vocalist Matthias Weeks, bassist Andrew Albus, drummer Derek Brosch, and guitarist Justin LaBo, occasionally being joined by second vocalist Scott Ray early on. The group began their own label, Council Records, as an independent platform for their releases. Before disbanding in 1994, Current released their Could I EP in 1992, a split 7" with Indian Summer in 1993, the full-length album Coliseum in 1993, and a split 7" with Chino Horde in 1994. Their fourth 7" release, Is 4, was issued in 1995 after the band's demise. They were ceaselessly active this entire time, touring the United States twice along with playing in the greater Detroit area regularly. All four members of Current also played in the crustpunk band Ottawa (joined by second vocalist Jeff Rice) around the same time, releasing the wildly popular and also influential Ottawa/Jihad split LP in 1994.
After the group broke up, most of their members continued on with music for decades to come, with various new ex-Current bands cycling through different phases of existence as the years went on. In 1998, Council Records released a discography collection that gathered together all of Current's recorded material from their records and compilation appearances. In 2022, Numero Group revisited the band's discography with Yesterday's Tomorrow Is Not Today, a box set that remastered all of the their work from the original tapes. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
