Biography
With a Bachelors degree in Theology from Salamanca University, Sanz also studied music in Italy with Caresana, Benevoli, Ziani and Colista. His most important work appeared in three volumes, "Instruccion de musica." The three volumes not only addressed instructions on tuning, stringing, fretting and strumming or plucking the five course guitar but also included approximately ninety pieces that progress in difficulty as one proceeds further into the material. This collection and method is the most comprehensive guitar instruction from this period in time. Pieces from the work appeared in six different manuscripts and publications as late as 1763 in French and Spanish editions. Sanz recommended the following tuning: a/a-d'/d-g/g-b/b-e'. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
