Kid Pepe
Biography
Kid Pepe was a composer of some classics of the Golden Age of Brazilian song. After several small jobs, he became a boxer, receiving the nickname Kid Pepe. He opened in radio in 1931 hosting his own show were he sang his and other composers' songs. Patrício Teixeira recorded one of his compositions for the first time, Eu Era Feliz (with Germano Augusto). With Noel Rosa, Kid Pepe wrote his masterpiece, O Orvalho Vem Caindo, recorded by Almirante for the Carnival if 1934, but the authorship is contested by some researchers. With Zé Pretinho and Noel Rosa, Kid Pepe wrote Tenho Raiva de Quem Sabe, recorded by Mário Reis. In 1935, Moreira da Silva successfully recorded the samba Implorar, written with Germano Augusto and J. S. Gaspar, for the carnival; Jaime Vogeler also recorded As Lágrimas Rolavam, written with Germano Augusto and R. Guará, with success; and Francisco Alves recorded Amor, Muito Amor (with Valfrido Silva) and O Sereno É Meu Castigo. In 1937, Joel e Gaúcho recorded Mangueira (with Bide), Victor Bacelar recorded Formosa Mulher (with Jorge Faraj), J. B. de Carvalho recorded Alô, Boy (with J. Piedade and José Ferreira), and Luís Barbosa recorded Um Sorriso Igual Ao Teu (with Germano Augusto). In the next year, Sílvio Caldas recorded the samba Choro Por Teu Amor (with Castro Barbosa), and Francisco Alves recorded Carnaval da Minha Terra (with Adolfo Cabral).
