Mullaert was best known as half of Minilogue (with Marcus Henriksson) and for his deep, expansive tech-house releases on labels like Mule Musiq, Hypercolour, Drumcode, and Kontra-Musik. He launched the Wa Wu We project in 2014 with the first of several untitled, numbered singles on its own eponymous label, naming it after a two-CD mix album he had done for Mule some years before. The project had a more deep techno sound than his own solo work, but in truth there was little difference between the early Wa Wu We releases and some of his later singles under his own name for labels like Traum Schallplatten and Default Position; and, indeed, the alias even provided remixes for some of these. In 2020, just a year after his own debut solo album A Place Called Inkonst (on Kontra-Musik), Hypnus Records released Mullaert's first full-length as Wa Wu We, 108 Dimensions of Green. On it, he took the opportunity to stretch out and go really deep, incorporating tribal and exotic world music influences akin to those of Hypnus labelmates Primal Code. ~ John D. Buchanan, Rovi
