Originally working behind the scenes in the music industry, Forbes teamed up Charlie May under the guise Spooky in 1992. Signing a deal with William Orbit and Dick O'Dell's Guerilla Records, they issued their debut single, "Don't Panic," that same year. Creating a buzz with their progressive take on house and techno, the duo became a mainstay on the underground U.K. club circuit, sharing stages with Underworld, Orbital, and Aphex Twin. Their debut album, Gargantuan, appeared in 1993, and following a slew of singles and the more eclectic sophomore release, 1996's Found Sound, the duo partied ways to continue their own careers. Forbes started to work behind the scenes, producing with Sasha and working on remixes and other collaborations. Spooky returned in 2002 and alongside a steady stream of releases, Forbes also started to work with Drum Club's Lol Hammond on film soundtracks, including 2017's The Hatton Garden Job and 2019's Obey. Forbes and Hammond also issued two collaborative albums of laid-back electronica with 2019's Days Without End and 2020's Who Will Stop the Robots? It wasn't until 2020 that Forbes released his debut solo single "Strobe Dancer" before following it up with a string of EP's all named after his label, 49North. The series saw Forbes flexing his production skills by offering up a mix of progressive techno and house that echoed his work with May in Spooky. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
