Biography
Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Greta Morgan (also known as Greta Salpeter) has made a name for herself on the indie rock scene as a member of the groups the Hush Sound, Gold Motel, and Springtime Carnivore. Morgan was born on February 12, 1988 in Oak Brook, Illinois. When she was just two years old, she began studying piano, learning pieces in the classical repertoire. In 2001, Morgan met Bob Morris, another aspiring musician, and three years later they formed the group the Hush Sound, with Morgan playing keyboards and singing. Morgan was just 16 when the band set out on tour in support of their debut album, So Sudden. In 2008, the Hush Sound announced they were going on hiatus, and Morgan moved to California, though she returned to Illinois to make an album with Dan Duszynski, using the house where she grew up at a recording location. The project grew into the band Gold Motel, who released a self-titled EP in December 2009, with an album, Summer House, following in June 2010. Gold Motel folded in 2012, shortly after the release of their second album, and the Hush Sound reunited, releasing an EP in 2013 and playing occasional live shows. Morgan's next project was a primarily solo effort, Springtime Carnivore, whose self-titled debut album of retro-pop with psychedelic touches was released in 2014. In 2016, Morgan released an album in tandem with Katy Goodman of La Sera. Titled Take It, It's Yours, the set featured low-key, atmospheric covers of classic punk and new wave tunes. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
