Steeped in traditional alternative country, this band could be a clone of Gram Parsons. The opening Goner sets the album off on a definite high point, a mid-tempo track with just enough lap steel and accordion to make it unique. A similar song is You've Been Had, a track that resembles the Guthries. Lead singer Leorra Newman doesn't dominate the album, but her sweet folk-like vocals on I Was There Too are similar to Margo Timmins singing Misguided Angel. When the group opts for a more ragged jug band sound on Motorcycles Towels, the result is still quite good. But the instruments each seem to vie for a leading role, making the song sound too busy at times. Catholic Boy atones for this slight miscue with a great duet between Newman and Jean Brophey. The middle tracks on the record offer more dirge-like ballads with sparse instrumentation and arrangements. I Don't Want to Go to School has far more tension in it before breaking out into a slow country-rock format. It's also the closest the band gets to sounding like Wilco in its guitar-oriented conclusion. The band rocks hard on Birthday, and the result is quite desirable. It's also one of the traits on the album's final tracks. Throughout the album, Newman has a quality in her voice that could be compared to Emmylou Harris, not necessarily in her range but in the sincerity the listener feels on the title track. Shovelhead and Sun Don't Shine are great pop/rock songs with infectious melodies and toe-tapping grooves. The five-minute ballad Orange You Glad is the album's standout, with Newman resembling PJ Harvey doing Peggy Lee's Is That All There Is?. There is precious little wrong with this album.
