Never was born in Spokane, Washington, and later moved to Los Angeles, where she worked as a session guitarist. By 2017, she began posting demos of solo songs online, sometimes using the Deb Never moniker and sometimes going just as Never. A 2018 collaboration with producer D33J was her first public work with the WeDidIt Records collective, which would sign her on the next year. In 2019, in addition to featuring on the BROCKHAMPTON song "No Halo" and occasionally performing live with the group, Never released debut EP House on Wheels, a collection of moody downtempo songs and light trap-pop rhythms. A remix of the House on Wheels track "Same" featuring Tommy Genesis was issued shortly after the EP, and in March 2020, Never collaborated with Kenny Beats on the song "Stone Cold." In May 2020, Never released the Intermission mixtape, a collection of songs recorded during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the new song "Someone Else" surfaced, moving in a direction that combined melodies reminiscent of early Radiohead with stretches of drum'n'bass rhythms. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
