A well-liked but ill-fated U.K. soul band, Feel For Soul led a roller-coaster existence for two years, backing some of the top visiting American talent but never carving a niche of their own in music. Based in Norwich, Feel For Soul was an octet organized by lead singer Dave Quinton, originally under the name Dave Quinton & the Chequers. Stewart Fuller (guitar), Julian Revell (tenor sax), Chris Green (baritone sax), Norman Samways (trumpet), Keith Burbury (organ), Paul Moss (bass), and Jeff Revell (drums) were the rest of the band. The original line-up began falling apart late in 1966 when Quinton exited and was soon replaced by Boz Burrell, who had just left the Boz People. Revell and Green formed the core of the new group, with Ronnie Dearing on guitar with Colin Clegg and Brian Tatum on organ. Burrell left the line-up in 1967, but the group held together as a septet, often working under the name the London All-Stars. Among other visiting American artists, they served as the backing band to the Drifters during their post-Atlantic period, becoming popular in that capacity in London.
