Biography
Though not a household name, DJ Mark the 45 King is a prolific producer and beat-maker, responsible for the signing of successful rappers such as Queen Latifah and Chill Rob G. Starting in 1979 as a record boy for DJ Breakout, DJ Mark soon moved to New Jersey where he began deejaying around the area, pulling samples from 45s and gaining a reputation as a solid beat maker in the process. He quickly branched out to re-mixing, doing a version of Eric B & Rakim's "I Know You Got Soul," before moving into producing records for young hopefuls like Queen Latifah. In 1987 the 45 King signed to Tuff City Records, releasing one of Rap's most celebrated records, "The 900 Number." Soon after he produced Chill Rob G's Ride the Rhythm album as well as Queen Latifah's million-selling All Hail the Queen. ~ Steve Kurutz, Rovi
