Park Hye Jin grew up listening to Korean pop music, and later became interested in electronic music after discovering English house producers like Disclosure and Jamie xx during her early twenties. She started rapping and singing in 2015, eventually learning to DJ and teaching herself to produce using Ableton. With much persistence, she looked for DJ gigs in Seoul's underground clubs, finally landing a residency at a lounge called Pistil. A self-titled mixtape appeared in 2018, and a debut EP titled If U Want It was released later in the year by clipp.art, a label and party based in Melbourne, where Park briefly relocated. The EP was praised by websites such as Pitchfork and Dazed, and Park toured across the globe, performing at international festivals such as Primavera and Dour as well as clubs like Berlin's Panorama Bar and Ibiza's DC-10.
She made a guest appearance on Baltra's 2019 full-length Ted, and worked on new material while continuing her busy touring schedule; she spent time in London and eventually moved to Los Angeles. Park's second EP, How Can I, was released by Ninja Tune in June 2020. Collaborations with Blood Orange, Nosaj Thing, Clams Casino, and Take a Daytrip followed. Debut full-length Before I Die appeared in 2021, containing songs reflecting on sex, family, and self-confidence. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
