Biography
Scot Summit is the alias used by Jeff Tweedy (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) in the all-star roots rock collective Golden Smog. Because of contractual obligations with their "day jobs" as members of groups such as Wilco, the Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Run Westy Run, and the Honeydogs, the members of Golden Smog assumed different names. The members came up with the "Smog names" by using their middle name as their first name and the street they grew up on as a last name. The group debuted with the EP On Golden Smog in 1992. Down by the Old Mainstream followed in 1996. By the time of 1998's Weird Tales, the members (now joined by Big Star drummer Jody Stephens) had begun using their actual names. ~ Erik Hage, Rovi
